Yesterday there was a fly in our house. Inara and Kaia were interested in watching it for a while, but eventually I no longer wanted it to be there. So I caught it out of the air with my hands. At first I though "damn, that was pretty awesome, I just caught a fly out of the air." Then I thought, "eww, now I have fly on my hands."

I don't understand this whole hdtv thing... When I went away to college nine years ago, I got a new computer. It was a not-ridiculously-fancy-for-the-time 500Mhz Pentium 3, with a standard CRT monitor. Which did 1600x1200. Am I missing something here? Is it just that people expect TVs to be cheaper/bigger than monitors, or what?

I have a long and tedious task to do at work (that's bad). But, it seems easily scriptable (that's good!) It is too complicated to be easy in shell script (that's bad) But, it should be easy in Perl (that's good!) I don't know Perl (that's bad) But I can learn it (that's good!) Learning it enough to do this task will take longer than just doing the task manually (....whatever, I'll do it anyway)

I found out yesterday that Dodds, one of the more awesome CS profs at Mudd, can still match my face to my name after five years, which is good, but also that his main memory of me is that I created the so-called "Joe Malone Problem" which you can find out about by googling that phrase (in quotes, of course), which is less good.

well, 200 episodes of questionablecontent later, I'm going to sleep. But first, I wanted to say two things: that coffeeshop is awesome. I was going to say that we need something like that around here, but it seems that red rock might be a like that and I would probably never know anyway, so whatever. and I was going to say that I wish I could have an anthroPC, but then I realized that I sort of do, only with fewer lasers and instead of weird comments you just get "ga boo da ba duck" and you have to figure out the meaning yourself.

I thought only chips and pcbs were powered by the magic smoke, but apparently apple ac adapters are as well. Unfortunately it escaped from mine last night, but I was able to make a couple observations: it is definitely different from the smoke in chips and pcbs, since it smells way less gross. it seems like it has pure potassium or something else from that column on the periodic table, since it reacted with the air and caused sparks.

Holy schnikies, the iPhone/iPod touch 1.1.3 google maps "locate me" feature is ridiculos. I mean, for the iPhone it sort of makes sense, and perhaps it worked well for me because there's a little google wifi signal here, but still...

It turns out that the guy who just moved into a cube near mine is a sales guy. I don't know why he's here, since everyone else around is either engineering or qa... Anyway, it seems that this morning I get to hear him cold-calling and leaving messages for people. Or rather, leaving the same message repeatedly for many people. This could get old really fast.
